Overview
The AHCMOM213 - Operate and Maintain Chainsaws course equips participants with the skills and knowledge to safely operate and maintain hand-held chainsaws in compliance with workplace safety standards. This nationally accredited course is suitable for individuals working in industries where the use of chainsaws is necessary, such as forestry, agriculture, or emergency services.
Participants will learn essential techniques for chainsaw operation, routine maintenance, and hazard management. Emphasis is placed on safe cutting methods, proper equipment handling, and adherence to environmental and workplace safety requirements.
Content
Preparation and Safety
Identify the worksite, hazards, and fallen timber.
Implement site-specific health, safety, and environmental controls.
Confirm emergency procedures, first aid availability, and necessary protective measures.
Workplace Health and Safety (WHS)
Recognize hazards related to chainsaw operation and apply risk controls.
Select and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Understand legislative and workplace requirements for chainsaw use.
Chainsaw Maintenance and Checks
Perform pre-operational checks and routine maintenance.
Calculate and mix fuel ratios correctly.
Identify and report equipment faults or malfunctions.
Chainsaw Operation
Communicate effectively with the work team.
Stabilize and position timber for safe cutting.
Apply proper cutting techniques for cross-cutting tasks.
Manage risks associated with different material types and environmental conditions.
Post-Operation Procedures
Clean, inspect, and store chainsaws safely after use.
Dispose of debris in accordance with workplace protocols.
Maintain accurate documentation and records.

* Your participation in the course may be cancelled or postponed if PPE requirements are not met.
Course Completion
Upon successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment.

This unit does not have a set expiration. However, refresher training may be recommended or required by employers or industry standards to ensure ongoing competence in line with technological updates and safety regulations
