Twelve Barkly men have completed a Certificate III Civil Construction skill set, with local trainer, Ian Chamberlain and will be supported to make successful transitions to employment. Contracted by CfAT, Ian will train the group for 15 weeks, using a variety of projects to engage the men in hands on learning. Maiden Civil Earthmoving Company is hosting the participants with DEEWR IEP funding support. The NT Department of Education and Training has contributed via Indigenous Responsive Funding and DEEWR support has allowed the employment of local mentor, Shane Butterworth, who has provided crucial cultural and professional support to the participants. Literacy and numeracy support has been provided by Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education. Participants who successfully complete this program will be given the opportunity to undertake DET funded accredited plant machinery operations training. Completion of the plant operations training will see the men obtain the Certificate III in Civil Construction, Plant Operations qualification and qualify them for employment in the civil or mining industry. Maiden Civil has guaranteed employment for all participants who successfully complete the program.
